2012 London Olympics Offer 30,000 Park and Ride Spaces

In order to benefit from more than 30, 000 parking spaces, the largest ever park and ride scheme will enable ticket holders for the upcoming London 2012 Olympics Games. These sites are mainly intended for the visitors to make their commutation easier via public transport, especially those who are residing outside London.

Passengers will be transported between sites and venues with the fleet of buses. During the 16 days of Olympics competition, spaces of approximately 350, 000 vehicles at the park and ride will be done. For the Blue Badge holders, 780 park and ride spaces will be made available along with recognized national disability parking permits. Approximately 2200 spaces Blue Badge parking will be available at or close to the venues.

According to Seb Coe, LOCOG Chair, “Park-and-ride provides another option for spectators at Games-time and will help those who may find it difficult to get to train stations or coach terminals can get to their events on time. Next summer will be a once-in-a-lifetime experience and it is vital that spectators look at all the transport options available to them.”

Hugh Somner, ODA Director of Transport stated, “The vast majority of park-and-ride sites have now been agreed with landowners and by the end of the year we will have a comprehensive network of car parks for spectators to use as a halfway house to get to and from their events. This will help us achieve our aim of making London 2012 a public transport Games. The focus now is for spectators to begin planning their routes to London 2012 by booking their parking spaces well in advance.”
