Sotherton Making Return to 2012 London Olympics for Heptathlon

During the 2004 Athens Olympics, 34 year old Kelly Sotherton won heptathlon bronze. At the end of 2010, she quit seven event discipline after long standing back injury, as he wanted to make it London as a member of the relay team of Britain’s 4X400m.

At this summer’s World Championship, she was unable to gain selection for relay at this Summer’s World Championship held in South Korea. She has been eliminated from the Lottery Funding programme.

Recently, she got positive reports regarding the recovery of her back problem. In order to make return to the heptathlon and to secure Olympic qualifying standard of 6150 points, Sotherton left her one lap ambitions.

She said, “I started training four weeks ago for the heptathlon. It has rejuvenated my feelings for the sport. I am motivated more and I'm enjoying the fact that next summer I could be at the Olympics in the heptathlon.”

During the 2007 World Championships, Sotherton won heptathlon bronze before completing finishing fourth at the Beijing Olympics in Osaka. Although, she has not completed a heptathlon since World Combined Events Challenge held in France, which was held in September 2008.

Jessica Ennis usurped her position as the queen of Britain of multi events. In the year 2009, she won world gold in Berlin as well as silver in Daegu. She said, “I don't think I'm going to be rivalling her as I possibly could have been a few years ago. I know where my limits lie. I'm not striving for a gold medal.”

Spare Rooms of 2012 London Olympics to Make Huge Revenue

According to a research, spare rooms of Olympic Games could be a major revenue generator with £23 million for the London households.

A survey conducted by Big Yellow Self Storage stated that 23,000 homeowners have a minimum of two bedrooms for regular usage. With the aid of Government data, calculation of figures has been done which suggest that rooms could be rented at a cost of £1,000.

Approximately 2000 property owners across the capital have found that half of them have used spare room for the purpose of storage, whereas one third of people have used spare room as bedroom once in three months.

Michael Homes, the TV property show presenter stated, “For those who don't feel comfortable sharing their home with a lodger on an ongoing basis, short lets for special events can prove highly lucrative.”

Big Yellow Self Storage’s Anthony Chenery stated, “We have definitely seen a significant rise in inquiries for short lets of smaller self storage rooms for next June, particularly in the stores closest to the key Olympics sites and with good transport links to London's top attractions.”

Ian Thorpe to Struggle in 2012 London Olympics

Ian Thorpe, the five time Olympic gold medallist stated that he is prepared to lose at the upcoming 2012 London Olympics Games.

During the Singapore World Cup meeting, Australian Thorpe marks return to the competition after being away from swimming for five years. He has been looking forward for some exciting challenge in 2012.

He also remarked that time is going against him and not expecting positive return. The 29 year old stated from his training base in Switzerland, “I'm more concerned about [being really successful] because that's what I'm not prepared for. I'm more comfortable knowing that, chances are, I'm going to fail at this. I've become comfortable with that. I'm more prepared to struggle through this whole thing and just enjoy it because I've never experienced that in my career.”

He further added, “I don't think anyone's done this before with the timeframe that I have. Realistically, it's probably too short. For some reason, in my mind, this is helping me. It's making it harder so I'm more focused.”

Instead of targeting medals, Thorpe set some other goals. While addressing BBC, he further said, “My goal at the start - and this will remain my goal through the Olympics - was to be able to swim faster than I used to. If at any stage I didn't think I could do that, I don't know if I'd continue. Medals are good but, for us in swimming, times are better because you have very little control over who wins. The best way to win the nicer-coloured medals is to make sure your process is a lot better than everyone else's. Simple as that.”

He also added, “I also don't think you should just limit yourself to trying to achieve this result, because this is what people perceive as being the ultimate. Push yourself beyond that and take that attitude of not just trying to win by one tenth of a second when you can win by two seconds. Take it that far. That's athletic accomplishment, not just what you get to wear around your neck.”

Last Night, the Olympic Park Legacy Company board decided to leave all the negotiations with West Ham and Newham. It will launch a new tender process, as currently going on legal process may delay the conversion of the stadium.

The stadium will be opened in public ownership, whereas OPLC will find a whole range of tenants, who wants to pay rental on stadium. This will be reduced to 60,000 seats at a price of £50m which has been drawn from the OPLC funds.

Lifetime Doping Ban Harmful for Athletes - 2012 London Olympics Latest News

Former World Champion, David Millar stated that lifetime ban of drug offenders could be harmful for fight against doping. He has been banned for two years after accepting the usage of EPO. He is now one of the members of WADA athletes commission and stated life ban as unfair.

He said, “Every doping case is different, as is every human being, we must not forget this. We expect fairness to be an integral part of the sports we watch, and yet fairness can be hard to find in the punishments of those athletes who make mistakes.”

He further added, “I hope this decision will pave the way for the development of global sports, and to creating a system that all athletes and sports fans can understand and believe in.”

Millar further stated that WADA code should be the only point of reference for investigation and punishment of doping offenders.

He said, “We no longer live in a sporting world where we are governed independently by regional or national bodies, sport is now competed on an international stage bigger than ever before and for that reason needs to be governed by international all-encompassing rules. We have a code that exists in world sport, it is called the WADA Code, it is constantly being revised in order to stay up to date with the latest anti-doping and judiciary developments. The WADA code sets the standard in sport and it is one that all national governing bodies should operate under.

Whatever the sport may be, from playing with a ball on a pitch, running in lanes on a track, or even racing bicycles through our city streets, each competitor should be subject to the same rules.”

He further added, “This is not to help the person who cheats or errs, it is there to protect the athletes who respect the rules. Each time those athletes step into competition they need to know that everybody they compete against is held accountable to one code.”

2012 Olympics Park Comprises of Gardens and Meadows

The riverside garden of Olympics Park is celebrating the British passion for plants. The garden prevails over half a mile amidst the most iconic venues of Park, the Aquatics Centre and Olympic Stadium. In Ashford Nursery, approximately 60, 000 plants, grasses, herbs and flowers have been grown up.

The river around the Olympic Stadium meadows comprises of cornflowers, marigolds, Californian poppies and prairie flowers. These flowers have been sown mainly for the opening ceremony.

John Armitt, Chairman of Olympic Delivery Authority stated, “The 2012 Garden and wildflower meadows will help create a festival atmosphere right at the entrance to the Olympic Park during and after the Games. The riverside gardens are a colourful celebration of the British passion for gardening as well as the world-leading work of the UK horticultural companies helping to create this fantastic new Park.”
