LOCOG, London 2012 Organising Committee made announcement regarding comprehensive sports testing programme and will be the part of preparations for the upcoming games. The testing programme of LOCOG will feature testing the field for play, results, scoring and timing systems along with major operational procedures and functions.

The programme mainly comprised of three different types of events. They are International Invitational Events, International Federations Events and International events organized by sports national governing bodies and various other organizations.

When the world’s greatest Olympic and Paralympic athletes come to London in the summer of 2012, every aspect of our delivery needs to be the best it can be.”

He also said, “The invaluable experience we gain through our testing programme means we can 'road-test' all our operational plans and make sure we have all the knowledge we need to deliver a truly memorable Games in 2012.”

Olympic Track Cycling Champion Victoria Plans to Retire Post 2012 London Olympics

While addressing Telegraph Sport, 30 year old Victoria Pendleton, the multiple world and Olympic track cycling champion stated that she may take retirement in the coming year. She also said, ‘be surprised if [she] was able to continue beyond’, i.e. after 2012 London Olympic Games.

During the launch of Cycletta, the brand new cycling initiative of women, Pendleton said that after Olympic games, her career may come to end. She further added, “I've been racing from a hobby level to an elite level from when I was nine [years-old]. It's been a long career and physically I know that I'm getting more and more injuries. It's a warning sign that there's not that much more to come.”

When some renowned sports channel asked Pendleton that this would be her last major competition, she replied, “I think so. I'd be very surprised if physically I was able to continue beyond that point.” She also admitted that she never found any motivation after Beijing Olympic Games.

She stated, “I feel that I am, perhaps, lacking the hunger that I felt approaching the [2008] Olympics.” Pendleton also added, “Aiming towards something that you have never achieved before, something that feels so out of your reach, is very different from retaining it, or attempting to retain it. I know that from winning the world titles. The first one [world title] for me was the most enjoyable and then stepping up with the rainbow stripes [the world champion's jersey] brings a lot of pressure and expectation. It's going to be really tough going into the Olympics and having that expectation as reigning Olympic champion.”

During the Track World cup meeting, Pendleton was the winner of two bronze medals in Manchester. During the Netherlands v Denmark at Soccer City Stadium, the TV cameras shot them. Instantly, women had to leave the place and got arrested. Mr. Deighton also said, “If someone tries to ambush, I would see it as an attack on one of the most important events in this country in a decade. Any brand that behaves like that would probably receive quite a negative reaction.”

He further added, “We are very alert to protecting our partners because without their contribution this kind of event cannot happen. We've got to strike the balance right to protect those rights and on the other hand behave in a way that is sensible when an ambush is attempted.” Heineken UK has exclusive sponsorship rights for beers and ciders at all 2012 London Olympics venues.

Ian Thorpe Mark a Return to International Swimming with 2012 London Olympics

In order to compete in 2012 London Olympics, Ian Thorpe has stated that he will come out of retirement to make a return to international swimming. Four years back, Thorpe left away elite swimming and announced during packed media conference held in Sydney.

28 year old also stated that he has been training in eight different Sydney pools. Geoff Huegill has already made successful comeback to the pool during Delhi Commonwealth Games and a visit to Olympic venue has regained his passion for this glorious sport.

Thorpe stated, “It hasn't been something that I have taken lightly in making a decision to return to competitive swimming but I actually made a decision in September.” He further added, “When I made that decision I was flying over the Atlantic and I then went on to not being able to say anything because I was actually commentating for the BBC so it was sitting in my gut for a while.”

He also added, “I was then taken to see the swimming venue for the London Olympics. It's an extraordinary venue and I could actually taste it... and I haven't felt this way about swimming for a very long time. I didn't at any stage get back into the pool to get fit. I didn't get back in the pool for any other reason than to be back at the stage of being able to compete at an elite level.”

He also said, “So when I initiated the training I promised myself first to train for three days without pulling the pin on it, then I said if I got through that I would give myself three weeks, and if I got through three weeks I'll go for three months then make a decision about this.”

Thorpe has collected nine Olympic medals, which includes five gold, 11 World Championship gold medals and 10 Commonwealth gold. Leigh Nugent, Australia Head Coach has been coaching Thorpe via text message.
