Transport to be Affected in 2012 London Olympics

Upcoming 2012 London Olympics is already a big craze among the sports lovers. London transport stated that small businesses should avoid usage of transport during the games. According to Boris Johnson, “A million extra passengers a day are expected on train and bus services during next year’s event, which was intended to be a ‘public transport Games.”

Peter Hendy, mayor’s transport commissioner said, “I am not going to be responsible for a transport mess like Atlanta’ – referring to the 1996 competition where an overstretched travel network buckled and caused athletes to miss events.”

Bob Crew, RMT union head also send warning against the capital risk, which includes global Olympics travel embarrassment on grand scale.

Mr. Crow said, “It could be like New Year’s Eve every night for three weeks. We support the Olympics but we’re in a situation where we’ve got rid of 600 staff from ticket offices and they are now searching for volunteers.”

He further added, “If there was a Mumbai-type bomb attack, what would happen? Stations will close, roads will be cordoned off, lorries won’t be able to make deliveries. We need to work out a plan where there is flexibility for staff.”

The International Olympic Committee in the year 2004 stated the transport system of London as ‘obsolete’. Mr. Hendy stated, “We’re already working with businesses to manage demand. We’re confident we will get all athletes, officials and spectators to their events on time and keep London moving.”

Radcliffe and Gebreselassie Aspires for Position in 2012 London Olympics

In the upcoming 2012 London Olympics, Paula Radcliffe and Haile Gebreselassie are working hard to secure a place.

On Sunday, the Ethiopian great Gebreselassie is looking for fifth Berlin victory, whereas after the birth of his son, Radcliffe is running her first marathon.
Radcliffe stated, “Realistically, this will probably be my last Olympics and I really want to win a gold medal. The best preparation would be for this [marathon] to be the only one.”

The 37 year old world record holder said, “For that reason the [qualification] time needs to be ticked off.”

For the 2012 London Olympics, a qualifying time of two hours and 31 minutes have been set by the UK Athletics.

She stated, “It's been a long time since I ran a marathon, so I have a bit of fear.” Gebrselassie also said that clock is certainly a big priority, as he set a world record in the year 2008. Now, he is facing huge pressure of qualifying for the Ethiopian team for the upcoming 2012 Olympics.

The 38 year old double Olympic Champion at 10,000m stated, “The time is most important, not the win, because I have to qualify for the next Olympics.”

He further added, “It's a big challenge with the youngsters back home. If I don't run a good time they won't let me run in London. This is the best chance to get a good time.”

During the third of his four consecutive Berlin victories from 2006 and 2009, Gebrselassie set a world record time of 2:03.59.

Next summer will be a once-in-a-lifetime experience and it is vital that spectators look at all the transport options available to them.”

Hugh Somner, ODA Director of Transport stated, “The vast majority of park-and-ride sites have now been agreed with landowners and by the end of the year we will have a comprehensive network of car parks for spectators to use as a halfway house to get to and from their events. This will help us achieve our aim of making London 2012 a public transport Games. Jessica Unhappy with her Performance

Jessica Ennis was quite disappointed when she lost her world championship title in a heptathlon and stated it as ‘one of the toughest I’ve had. However, later she found that some silver lining with her silver medal.

Ennis said, “If it was any year then it was good it was this year, before the Olympics, so I can get it out of my system. I can make the corrections and come back stronger.”

With 23 year old Russian Tatyana Chernova, she lost and has become one of the greatest rivals in modern athletics. Chernova is just two years younger than Ennis, as latter’s coach Toni Minichello stated it as a hulking gap between them. Ennis stated, “I was so poor and Chernova's was so good and that was enough to take the gold medal.” She further added, “I was devastated straight after the javelin. I knew I had thrown it away. I had a few hours to get my thoughts together. I had to beat her by eight seconds and that was virtually impossible.”

Minichello laughed off and stated that “I've let her right in'. So I was a bit weepy.”
