Request for Olympics Rings at Ski Slope

A letter has been sent to the chief of 2012 London Olympics Games, Lord Sebastian by Adam Montogomery to host the Olympic rings at Midlothian Snowsports Centre positioned at Hillend. We can view these rings from Edinburgh, West Lothian, Fife and East Lothian.

Planes had been thrown out to erect these rings on Edinburgh Castle. The letter which Provost Montgomery has mailed to the Olympic organizers includes invitation to fix Games insignia on top of Hillend. This is one of the highest points in Midlothian.

Provost Adam Montogomery said “Snowsports enthusiasts and the thousands of people who see Hillend on a daily basis will also be eagerly awaiting the response this invitation. The Olympic rings at Midlothian Snowsports Centre at Hillend would further raise the profile of this nationally important facility. The history of Olympians training at the centre, including Olympic skiers Finlay Mickel and Alain Baxter, make this site so suitable.”

He further added, “This would be a great way to celebrate the recently announced £500,000 developments at the centre. If the invitation were to receive a positive response we would then look at the logistics of bringing this internationally recognised symbol to the slopes.”

In order to save the future of site, Sportscotland and Scottish government offered £1m funding. BOA Could Accept Drug Cheats- 2012 London Olympics Latest News

Incase the lifetime ban for the drug cheats is declared as unlawful by British Olympic Association, Dwain Chambers would be the part of Team GB. This is directly challenging the World Anti-Doping Agency policy, as this ban is non-compliant with the code.

While addressing BBC Radio 5 Live, BOA Chairman Lord Moynihan said, “They will, rest assured, be fully embraced into the team.”

Before the end of April, both BOA and Wada is hoping Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) will make the decision.

Moynihan also insisted that BOA Bylaw had huge support over the British athletes. If it is changed by the lawyers, individuals affected would receive, “the same treatment as anybody else and we will wish them luck.”

After failing a drugs test in the year 2003, Sprinter Chambers served a ban. In case, if BOA lost then he could participate in 2012 London Olympics Games.
Moynihan said, “We are going to Cas to try to win this case, we believe we need to do so on behalf of clean athletes and reflect the 90-95% of athletes who consistently ask for this selection policy.”

He further added, “We have full autonomy to decide who we are going to select and we believe that is a very strong position in front of Cas. This is not a sanction or double jeopardy, this is a selection policy. The right of team selectors is the basis for a strong appeal.” According to Moynihan, the selection policy of BOA offers a fairer deal for those who are clean athletes.

13500 UK Troops to Guard 2012 London Olympics

2012 London Olympics Budget Issue

Hugh Robertson, sports minister has rejected all the claims made by the National Audit Office. According to the reports, expenditure will cross the budget for the upcoming Olympics and stated it as the ‘gloomiest possible picture’.

According to NAO, the real risk is regarding the overall budget of £9.3billion figure, which would not be sufficient for the upcoming Olympic Games and rigorous action is needed.

While addressing BBC sports minister, Robertson said, “I don't accept that £9billion is not going to be enough. I announced the quarterly results at the beginning of the week, and that the construction programme by Christmas will be 95% complete, and we still have half a billion pounds worth of contingency left. Given we started with £2bn worth of contingency you could argue we've worked through three quarters of that, but as I say 95% of the construction programme is now complete, so I think we're in a strong position. I wouldn't for a moment underestimate the difficulty of the task we're facing. Remember that in construction terms we have built [the equivalent of] two terminal fives [at Heathrow Airport].”

He further added, “We've a logistical operation to run the Games unequalled in this country, unless we undertake a major war, and we're staging 46 simultaneous world championships over a month-long period. It is an incredibly difficult project, but we've done remarkably well up to now, and I'm as confident as I can be we will bring this in on time and on budget.”

Later, Robertson has been suggested that he should take NAO seriously, as he replied, “Every single piece of expenditure comes over my desk, so we do take it incredibly seriously, and the NAO is there to highlight risks. But it generally tends to take a glass half-empty, rather than half-full view of all of this. I think reading through their report they have taken the gloomiest possible picture, but they are right to be cautious. However, I think we are marginally now in a better position than we have been at various stages in the past.”

Although the security bill has also been doubled to £533m, still Robertson said, “Security is, relatively speaking, the last piece of the puzzle. You need to have the venues constructed, and then crucially the competition overload put on top of that. The security was always going to be the last thing we did. In a sense there should be absolutely no embarrassment for anybody in government, or anybody organising the Games, saying we are paying whatever is necessary in order to deliver a safer and secure Games.”
