For the Olympic Park, a brilliant new piece of architecture has been launched today. Olympic Delivery Authority, ODA made some significant announcement regarding the completion of a key footbridge which spans over River Lea. The focal point will be between Olympic Stadium and Aquatics Centre.
In the year 2007, a design competition was held to select an upcoming architectural and engineering practice to create a significant piece of architecture in the centre of Park. The winning team mainly comprises of Dublin based Heneghan Peng Architects with Adam Kara Taylor Engineers.
Construction of winning bridge design has been ended featuring both the permanent and temporary elements to include Games time and legacy use.
The bridge mainly comprises of two permanent footbridges, which is linked by central blade-like walkway. This will create Z shape covered in mirror finish stainless steel. A multi-colored temporary deck has been positioned between the permanent spans of bridge to increase the width, for the Games-time. Thus, it will allow to carry huge number of spectators.
With the inspirational London 2012 brand colors, temporary Games time bridge has been covered with multi-colored rubber surface.
Simon Wright, the ODA Director of Infrastructure and Utilities stated, “With the main Olympic Park venues in place we are now seeing the completion of crucial new infrastructure to help stitch the site together and create an open and accessible new park for London. The Central Park bridge creates a new focal point in the Olympic Park for spectators and future generations to enjoy.”
