2012 London Olympics Watch Stalls

Just after a day of launch, Olympics organizers went through huge embarrassments as the gigantic Trafalgar Square clock stalled. The clock has been launched by some renowned names, such as Lord Coe, London mayor Borris Johnson and the potential gold medallist of London 2012, Jessica Ennis. Unfortunately, the official countdown clock stopped, when the Olympic tickets went on sale.

Sponsor Omega has manufactured this official timepiece and is considered as the customary fixture for Olympic host cities. This prominent 6.5 high structure is positioned in Trafalgar Square was hosted by Clare Balding.

Four Olympic gold medalists from Team GB rowers Pete Reed and Andy Hodge and sailors Iain Percy and Andrew Simpson unveiled the clock. Before the launch, Lord Coe, LOCOG Chairman said, “The launch of the Omega countdown clock is an important milestone for any Olympic Games and is something of a tradition within the Olympic movement. It will be a daily and hourly reminder to everyone who visits Trafalgar Square that the countdown to the start of London 2012 has well and truly begun and that the greatest show on earth is soon coming to our country.”

Spokeswoman of Omega said, “We are obviously very disappointed that the clock has suffered this technical issue. The Omega London 2012 countdown clock was developed by our experts and fully tested ahead of the launch in Trafalgar Square. We are currently looking into why this happened and expect to have the clock functioning as normal as soon as possible.”
