According to the latest reports, salary at British Olympic Association has enhanced by more than 20% during the past 12 months. At BOA, average pay of staff member is increased by more than £13,000. For the year 2010, figures are included in the account of BOA which states average salary increment is more than £75,000.
In the year 2010, number of staff has fallen down from 57 to 52, but wage bill be increased by £400,000. One major reason for the increment in wage bill is that three additional staff members are not been included in accounts.
BOA stated, “Those 52 people were instrumental in helping the organisation deliver a year-end profit of £236,000 and increase its reserves to £2.2m for 2010.”
He further added, “This is the second consecutive year in which the BOA has produced a profit and expanded its reserves. The unprecedented opportunities and challenges associated with preparing to support Team GB in a home games environment require the BOA to attract the best-possible talent. Clearly, having delivered a year-end profit for 2010, the organisation is living within its means.”
A long high profile dispute with LOCOG, the London 2012 Organising Committee has been lost by BOA. While addressing BBC, one of the leaders of British Olympic sport stated regarding the salary increment that, “This is unsustainable. It sends out entirely the wrong signal at a time of recession.”
