2012 London Olympics Torch to Cross 1000 Communities

On the route of Olympic Torch Relay, LOCOG, London 2012 Organising Committee revealed the name of 1000 cities, towns and villages. The Olympic flame will cover 10 miles between 18 May and 27 July.

The glorious Olympics flame will mark a visit to some iconic landmarks, such as Loch Ness, Snowdon, Stormont and Stonehenge. The torch will be carried by 8000 torchbearers and will use some unusual transportation modes, such as horseback, steam train and a zip wire.

Every count in England, as well as every local Authority area in Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales will be the host of glorious Olympic flame.

Seb Coe, LOCOG Chair said, “I’m delighted that the Olympic Torch Relay will take the 2012 Games to almost every corner of the UK and that we have achieved our ambition to take the Flame to within an hour’s journey of 95% of the population.
Now everyone is invited to plan their welcome and find out where they can go to be part of this historic occasion. The Olympic Games are coming to you as the Olympic Flame gives our people and places their moment to shine.”

Coca-cola, Lloyds TSB and Samsung will present the 70 day Olympic Torch Relay. On 19th May 2012, it will start at the Land’s End. The flame will travel approximately 8000 miles all across UK before reaching to London. On 27th July 2012, the flame will mark a visit to River Thames and will make it way to Olympic Stadium for the Opening Ceremony.
