Handball Arena of 2012 London Olympics About to Complete

Copper roof of the London 2012 Handball Arena is finished and half of its colored seats have been positioned. 3, 000 retractable lower tier seats will be installed later after the completion of court. Sustainability is the major priority of the Arena. Rooftop light pipes will offer huge illumination as compare to conventional lights of similar size. Thus, it will result in annual energy savings up to 40 percent.

With rain harvesting system, water usage will be saved up to 40%. This will be supplied to toilets and non potable systems. John Armitt, Chairman of Olympic Delivery Authority stated, “The Handball Arena is one of the most compact on the Olympic Park, with legacy and sustainability very much integrated into the design process. Progress is moving ahead at an impressive rate, with over half of the seats already in place and work underway on installing the sprung wooden floor.”

At this Arena, Olympic sports that will be hosted comprises of preliminary stages of Men and Women’s quarter finals for handball competition, fencing discipline and Modern Pentathlon.
