London Olympics Opening ceremony, the Olympic Stadium will be converted into British countryside on 27th July. In order to recreate country scenes, around 10, 000 volunteers will do against the backdrop which will feature farmyard animals and landmarks such as Glastonbury Tor. According to the Artistic Director Danny Boyle, the opening scene of the ceremony will cost around £27ma and is called as Green and Pleasant.
He also stated that his show would create, ‘a picture of ourselves as a nation’. During the proceedings, Boyle reserved role for NHS nurses, as he said, “The best way to tell that story is through working with real people.”
Boyle also informed that there have been 157 cast rehearsals, “I've been astounded by the selfless dedication of the volunteers, they are the pure embodiment of the Olympic spirit and represent the best of who we are as a nation.”
The set comprises of meadows, fields and rivers, where families taking picnics. People will play sports on village green and farmers tilling the soil. In the countryside, real farmyard animals will be grazing which includes menageries of 70 sheep, 12 horses , 3 cows, 2 goats, 10 chickens, 10 ducks, 9 geese and 3 sheepdogs.
