For the ‘Designs of the Year 2012’ award, the London 2012 Olympics Torch has been announced. The torch has been designed by East Londoners Edward Barber and Jay Osgerby. Industry experts have nominated this torch in the Product category of the awards.
The Design Museum longlist is a huge celebration of topmost innovative global designs all over from seven categories, which includes Fashion to Transport.
The opportunity to design the Torch was given to Barber and Osgerby. It was unveiled on June 2011 via a competitive tender which has been organized by London 2012 Organising Committee and Design Council.
The best of British talent has been celebrated by the design, engineering and manufacture of the product. The triangular shape has been inspired from a series of ‘threes’, which have been found in the history of Olympic Games.
