At the Lee Valley White Water
Centre, around 80 canoe slalom athletes took to water today. In order to train
at the London 2012 venue, athletes from 30 national teams took benefit of today’s
opportunity. From 29 July, the last chance to train the Olympic Slalom

With 5.5 metre descent, Olympic
hopefuls have smartly managed the 300 metre Olympic Standard competition
course. The London 2012 Director of Sport, Debbie Jevans said, “We are ready to
deliver the Games, the venue is in great shape and the athletes now have
another chance to train at the facility. Athletes have always been at the heart
of our planning and we have done everything we can to ensure that they have
perfect stage upon which to compete.”
The centre comprises of two separate
courses which includes competition course and 160m intermediate/training course
with 1.6m descent.

From the scratch both the courses
have been built from scratch along with 10,000 square metre lake. This will
feed a system of pumps which will offer course with 13 cubic metres of water
per second. Pumps are creating the white water, whereas obstacles have been
placed along with the course.
In July 2009, construction of Lee
Valley Water Centre started and was completed in December 2010. The venue marked its opening in
the Spring 2011, as the brand new London 2012 venue which the public have used
for the upcoming Olympics Games.
After the Olympics Games, two
courses as well facilities will be there, whereas venue will become world class
canoeing and kayaking facility for people of every levels of ability. For the
white water rafting, the venue is a major leisure attraction.
