On July 27, around 900 children will perform in the opening ceremony of 2012 London Olympics. The magnificent event will be viewed by 80,000 people in the Olympic Stadium.
Seb Coe, LOCOG chair said, “Being part of the Ceremonies is a great way of inspiring young people, I’m delighted schoolchildren from the Host Boroughs will be part of our show and help tell our story to the world. The students involved will have an incredible experience which will build their confidence and a sense of pride in themselves, their friends, family, school and wider community.”
The Artistic Director of London 2012 Olympic Ceremony show, Danny Boyle said, “We've called the show "Isles of Wonder", inspired by Shakespeare's The Tempest. Our Isles of Wonder salutes and celebrates the exuberant creativity of the British genius in an Opening Ceremony that we hope will be as unpredictable and inventive as the British people.”
The proceedings will start with largest harmonically tuned bell in Europe, as informed by Danny Boyle. Whitechapel Bell Foundry has produced the bell, which measures two meters tall by three metres wide and weigh around 23 tonnes. The words inscribed on bell are ‘Ben not afeared the isle is full of noises.”
