17 year old swimmer of Japan Akhiro Yamaguchi has been declared as the ‘next Kosuke Kitajima’ of Japan. In the upcoming 2012 London Olympics, he is being expected to play big. The teenager is the winner of world junior title in 200 metres breaststroke. While addressing the Nikkan Sports newspaper, he said that he has planned big targets for London Olympics, “I plan to win gold.”
At the 2004 Athens Olympics and 2008 Beijing Games, his hero Kitajima had stormed 100 and 200 breaststroke double. According to the Japanese coach, Norimasa Hirai, Kitajima will perform stunningly well in London.
Hirai said, “I haven’t seen anything like him since Kosuke so it’s exciting. Kosuke is more about pure speed but (Yamaguchi) has real spring and incredible stamina. You just never know what he could go at the Olympics.”
The real inspiration of Yamaguchi is the brilliant gold medal performances of Kitjima in Beijing Olympics after a tough phase.
