After his nomination for the Olympic squad, 21 year old Lutalo Muhammad started receiving hate mails. On the other hand, he keep on insisting that he can be the winner of gold medal this summer. While addressing BBC Sport, the champion stated, “A lot of people didn't appreciate that I had a good European Championships.”
He further added, “If I perform to the best of my ability I have a very good chance of getting that gold medal for Team GB in London.”
The last weeks were not good for Muhammad and he considered it to be ‘tough ordeal’, whereas Cook camp made appeal against Olympic omission of the fighter. The fighter also stated, “There were times where I admit I wasn't sure what was going on, or what was going to happen. All I've tried to do is perform to the best of my ability, because when people start sending you hate mail and calling you names and what not, I think it was quite childish.”
He further added, “A lot of the stuff that I received I don't want to even repeat, it was quite hurtful. Fortunately I had great support from the team and Sarah [Stevenson], Jade [Jones] and Martin [Stamper] really helped me just focus on my training and kind of block everything else out.”
