Seb Coe, the chair of London 2012 Organising committee made announcement that approximately 200 Pre-games Training Camp PGTC agreements have been signed all across UK.
After signing agreements between facilities in UK and National Olympic Committees and International teams, camps have been arranged via formal agreement. These camps are offering all the athletes with a base for preparation, training and acclimatization for the upcoming games.
LOCOG is offering some advantageous financial assistance to some of the NOCs, whereas others have made their own arrangements. While addressing Association of National Olympics Committees meeting held in Moscow, Seb stated, “I am delighted that 93 NOCs have signed up to use so many different locations. Over 50% of them have 10 athletes or less and we want to give as much assistance as we can to these smaller teams.”
He further added, “Training camps are an essential part of an athlete’s preparation for the London 2012 Games. Each facility will provide excellent facilities and a vital service to ensure athletes can prepare properly for the biggest sporting events of their lives. The Games is about engaging and inspiring young people and I urge teams to go out and meet their local communities when they come to train. I know they will get a warm welcome.”
